Culture Break Borders focuses on cultural projects across borders involving artists in all genres. We believe the power of arts generates good results in relation to challenges concerning human rights, democracy and civil society.
The magic of puppetry
We are partner for an exciting three-day puppet theater workshop in Oslo in cooperation with the Greek Visual Puppet Theater "Prasein Aloga".
We have gathered a group of both experienced puppeteers and amateurs and learned new things about ourselves through working with puppets.
We will get an introduction to how we can use the puppet to create and convey an artistic message.
Prasein Aloga was established in 1997 by Emmanuela Kapokaki, a graduate of the Charleville-Mezières Puppet School in France.
This theater has created a long series of award-winning performances.
Now you can get to know some of the theatre's artists and, together with them, learn about how you can create life in a doll. perhaps the doll has an even stronger expression than a living person as an actor?
The Norwegian composer and guitarist Frode Barth will take part in the workshop and contributed with musical moods to the activities.
Strengthen the business of Roma artists in the Czech Republic

- in cooperation with a Czech partner investigate in cultural activities between the Roma and the majority society in the Czech Republic
- to obtain feedback on the work of Roma music artists in the form of cooperation with music critics in the Czech Republic
"ELIN KRISTINA OSKAL"

A joik is a traditional Sami form of song. There are no references to how and where joik originated. Legend tells that it was the fairies and elves of the arctic lands that gave joiks to the Sámi People. Joik is one of the longest living music traditions in Europe, and is the folk music of the Sami people.
On the album “Árbi” - Frode Barth / Ellen A. Oskal, you will find personalized joiks who reflects the persons. Each title bearing the name of the person who the joik is given to.
The album consists of a total of 13 personalized compositions where Oskal performs the joiks along with Barths electronics, electric guitar and acoustic guitars.
Following musicians participating on the album: Manu Katché, drums, Palle Mikkelborg, trumpet, Trygve Seim, saxophone and Anders Røyne, jew's harp / hardanger fiddle.
The album is released in Norway by Heilo Records / Grappa.

EHP AND NORWEGIAN FUNDS PROJECT STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY OF THE ASSOCIATION OF ROMA MUSIC ARTISTS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacities of our enterprise and at the same time the
capacities of its members. This goal will be achieved by 28 February 2023:
- media visibility our enterprise and its 13 members on the domestic and foreign music scene,
- professionalization of professional and managerial services of 3 employees and 2 representatives our enterprise and 13 Roma music groups,
- establishing international cooperation with a Norwegian partner in the field of music and
transfer of international experience.

Fulfillment of the Bangkok Rules in the Czech Republic: A way to support the human rights of imprisoned and released women
The project will improve the awareness of the experts and practitioners about the existence and importance of the Bangkok Rules (BR) and to point out the possibilities of fulfilling BR by means of new educational materials and tools. We want to change the stereotypical thinking of convicted women and contribute to ensuring a suitable social climate for the application of BR in practice and the necessary systemic changes. The result of the project will be an analysis of the problems and needs of convicted women and an increase in the awareness of the professional and general public about fulfilling the rights and needs of convicted women and increasing their competencies to protect their rights. Part of the project is cooperation with Norwegian partner Culture Break Borders. The cooperation will cover sharing good practice of fulfilling the BR in Norway and participatory artistic workshops to raise awareness on human rights of convicted women. Part of the project is the involvement of women with criminal backgrounds in educational and awareness raising activities. The aim is to strengthen their voice and involve them in proposing changes to current practice. To do this, we will use innovative methods applying the principle of empowering and active participation.
The Bangkok Rules, or formally, "The United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-custodial Measures for Women Offenders", is a set of 70 rules focused on the treatment of female offenders and prisoners adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 22 December 2010.

SEA@VE, traslated from Portuguese, means Raising Awareness through Arts
in the scope of Emotional Violence. It is a bilateral cooperation
project, supported by the Active Citizens Fund, developped by the
promotor from Portugal: AluapDans- Companhia Dança Paula Marques and
partner from Norway: Culture Break Borders.
The project aims to achieve networking with professionals and the community in order to raise awareness related to abuse, specifically emotional abuse, and is the basis for a larger inclusive artistic/therapeutic project, which
foresees the fusionbetween arts and mental health. An open debating
phase was accomplished both in Portugal and in Norway, March 2022 in the
hope of removing barriers, breaking silences, establishing empowerment
by the means of artistic and therapeutical strategies, while promoting
the active involvement of the community, artists and health professionals.
Bulgaria – Norway Sing!
Darbi Foundation & Culture Break Borders are in the process of planning the “Bulgaria – Norway Sing” project, supported by EEA and Norway Grants.
It will be organized professional training, rehearse new repertoire and hosting of a Norwegian Youth Choir in Bulgaria for for singers and conductors who will participate in the Bulgaria-Norway Sing Festival. We will exchange experiences and make separate workshops for singers and conductors.

Culture Breaks Borders is pleased to be the project partner with Art Movement, Czech Republic to carry out an exciting collaborative Project supported by EEA and Norway Grants.
During the international interdisciplinary project Elements, a new theatrical performance, exhibition and a series of follow-up workshops and lectures will be created. The dramaturgical and ideological basis for theater and exhibition are Elements … water, air, earth, fire, metal, ether, which metaphorically depict the different states of the soul. Residents of the capital city of Prague, the Central Bohemian, Liberec, and Moravian-Silesian regions, and the capital of Norway – Oslo – can look forward to new cultural experiences. Theater in Bulgaria
Project “Performance „Choices”: strengthening the values in society through contemporary art”
Culture Break Boarders has in collaboration with From Heart to Heart Association developed a theater performance funded by EEA and Norway Grants
.
The performance "Killing Flight" had rehearsals and was completed in Sofia, Bulgaria this summer. The performance will be played in villages in Bulgaria 2021/2022 where there are rarely theatrical experiences. The goal is to create interest and strengthening the values in society through contemporary art.
The Norwegian team: Peder Hamdahl Næss, theater director, Frode Barth, composer and producer, Anna Topchijj, co-director and theater teacher, Inger Cecilie Bertrán de Lis, choreographer and Nemanja Cadjo, set designer with costume and lighting manager.

SINGLE PARENTS IN HUNGARY
Close to 1 million people - children and grown-ups - live in single parent families in Hungary, a country of 10 million people.
Culture Break Borders was involved in inspiring, setting up the structure, strategic partnership and establishing the Single Parent Families’ Foundation (NGO) which operates the Single Parents’ Centre in Budapest.
The Foundation helps families living with one parent and promotes these families' case. Their risk of getting poor is very high - close to half of these families face poverty
The project also included setting up a homepage, building professional contacts and
organizing the first conference in Hungary about single parents.
The outcome was exchanging the best practices and know hows and widening the services of the two organisations based on the exchange of methodology.
Music therapy projects were carried out by Culture Break Borders together with the artist Frode Barth and nurse Anita Evjen in Budapest for groups with Down syndrome. Barth has long experience in creating music-therapeutic workshops for people with both mental and physical disabilities. Evjen has special expertise in Down's syndrome. They stimulated the participants sensory device and spread joy through a creative interaction.
Culture Break Borders organized rewarding study trips and conferences with skilled experts from: Rødhette, in Oslo, run under the auspices of the Lone Parents' Association with the support by Oslo Municipality, Oslo School of Music and Culture (OMK), The rehearsal hotel, Munkenga kindergarten, Kuben High School and Dissimilis, a cultural organization for people with developmental disabilities.
